Books for my dh?

Dh has just specified ‘books’ on his Christmas list 🙄 and I have no idea what to get him! He loves gothic Victorian books and anything to do with vampires or horror. So far I’ve ordered him Master of Death by Olive Blake. Books he likes include The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, Burnt Offerings by Robert Marasco and The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda. Any suggestions?

Books by Robert Harris are good ‘male’ books

Have a look at Bellman and Black by Diane Setterfield

The Strings of Murder by Oscar De Muriel, think Victorian Edinburgh Sherlock Homes crossed with The X-Files. The whole series is fantastic and well written. This is the first book and the series recently completed.

This House is Haunted by John Boyne, The Little Stranger and Affinity by Sarah Waters, An Instance of the Fingerpost by Iain Pears and A Maggot by John Fowles

How about the classics?

Bram Stoker: Dracula
Oscar Wilde: Dorian Gray
Emily Bronte: Wuthering Heights
Mary Shelley: Frankenstein
M. R. James: Collected Stories

All of those are either horror or Victorian gothic. And they are in the canon for a reason. I'm a big fan of M. R. James. If your partner likes horror but has never read him, I'd urge you to buy a copy.

@JaneyGee he’s read them!
