Another ‘what’s this book’!

This is doing my head in, I’ve done so many google searches and I just can’t find it.

I remember reading a children’s book in the 80s, it had a young girl who had run away hiding out in a mansion. In one of the rooms there was an Aztec mask which she was fascinated by. Occasionally someone would visit the house and she’d hide from them. It was set in the UK I think and most likely published in the 70s or 80s.

I thought the book was called The Aztec Mask but I can’t find anything like that so I must be mistaken.

If anyone has any idea what it was then I’d be eternally grateful!

I came across a secondhand copy of Mask of the Night by Mary Ryan with this blurb "Jenny never knew her mother and is a child when her father is killed. But Jenny discovers an old mask in the attic, a sinister stranger who whispers dreams of the impossible. On her visits home to Kilashane from the city, Dee is fascinated by an old house, and she and Jenny are linked by the past." and though of this thread but I see the mystery has been solved!
