Uncle Paul

Anyone read Uncle Paul by Celia Fremlin. I am an avid reader and was looking forward to this. But I don't get the twist at the end and have re read it 4 times now. Without giving too much away something happens at the end but to whom and how I just can't fathom out. First book I think I have ever read when I can't grasp the ending.

Spoiler alert.

It was never Uncle Paul who posed the threat, as he died years ago. It was the half-sister all along, eg trying to get the main character to fall down the well. I don't think there's any supernatural suggestion at the end, just the half-sister hallucinating that her husband was coming back.

I have just read Uncle Paul like jazzyfazzy and I just wanted to cross the t's and dot the i's.

It stated in the end that both Mildred and Meg died. I know Mildred poisoned Meg, that I get, but when it said that both had died, I was unsure how infact Mildred had died? Have I misinterpreted that ending?
