I am just about to finish this book by Rosamunde Pilcher. I've really loved it. Can anyone suggest something similar?

Have you read The Shell Seekers?

ZigZag1234 · 20/07/2023 19:31

No, I haven't read that. Thanks for the suggestion.

I loved Coming Home. You could try The Stranger’s Child by Alan Hollinghurst, which I also loved. The plot was intricate and beautifully written. Or, if you fancy a classic there’s Brideshead Revisited? The theme of lasting/changing friendships are similar in both, I think.

And the Winter House by Judith Lennox. Which was also lovely.

Any of Maeve Binchy's 1950s sagas. No one beats her in this genre imo.

I re-read The Shellseekers a few months ago because I loved it when I first read it about 20 years ago. Funny how your opinion of a book can change. Most of the main characters were awful this time round! Grin

I still like Coming Home though. There's a good TV adaptation of it too.

Maeve Binchey books were my first thought also.

Also Jean Grainger, ‘ The Tour’.

Thank you very much for these ideas.

I remember watching the TV adaptation in the 1990s I think and it stuck with me, but I only just got around to the book. I think it will be one I re-read every so often.
