Kindle help!

So I'm confused.

I had a kindle about 12 years ago when dc were tiny. It was great for reading while bf in the middle of the night. Then it broke after a few years and I went back to physical books, plus audible.

I am going on long haul holiday this summer and dh has banned me from taking physical books, so yesterday I ordered a paperwhite.

I have had to get the kindle app. According to the app I have fucking millions of books on there. Some of which i recognise as having read from when I had my previous kindle.

But these are just on the app, not on the device itself? Is there a way of downloading them to the device?

Also, is it right that I can't buy books for my kindle via the Amazon app? Just from Amazon via web browser?

And all of my audiobooks are showing up on the device? Why is this? I can't listen to them via the device, can I?

I'm just very confused as I seem to have lots of books in some sort of cloud but can't figure out how to get them onto the actual device to read them. I don't want to read them off my phone otherwise I wouldn't have bothered buying the kindle.

Also what is kindle unlimited??

The Reddit kindle sub is fab for info.

but basically yes all kindle books have to down via the web. Something to do with money wanted by other parties. Blah blah.

connect your kindle to your Amazon account via WiFi and download your kindle library. You can organise your content, on the amazon app if you don’t want everything on there etc.
audible is available on paperwhite SE.

I don’t use the kindle app on my phone as I find it useless. Just connect my kindle to WiFi and shop from there.

Why does he get to dictate what you do?

My Kindle is ancient so I don't know about newer models but I buy books on the website and they show up on my Kindle.

If you can see your books on your kindle then you're halfway there - you just need to click on them to download. You can shop for new books directly from your kindle - just go to store. I don't know about audio books, sorry.

Actually I don't really understand this. Why did you have to get the app if you have the paperwhite?

The app on your phone and your paper white will have the same books. Just make sure your paperwhite is on I-fi to download the books before you go on holiday!

And they should sync up- remember which page you are on if you flip between your phone app and the paperwhite.

Enjoy!

To download the books to your paperwhite, go to your amazon account and choose Manage Your Content and Devices, then Books.

You can either select them all, or just choose the ones you want to download, then click Deliver to Device. Then choose your Paperwhite, and off you go.

Some newer kindles can play audiobooks. I organise content via the amazon website on my phone.

It said I needed the app to set up the paper white.

Re dh's ban- don't worry I'm not in a coercive relationship. But we are going away for nearly three weeks and I'm imagine I'll read a lot of books in that time- maybe 10-12, so obs that would take up too much of my luggage allowance.

I think I'm sorted now thanks- I can see the books on the device now, I think it just took a while for them to appear.

thanks for everyone's help!
