I’m off on my hols soon and want to load up my kindle. I’ve read all the Cara Hunter/DI Fawley books, I’ve nearly finished the DCI Simon Serrailler books and really like Cavendish and Walker.

So if I like all those, what else is similar?

They're old but what about the Inspector Wexford novels by Ruth Rendell?

Or if you also like a bit of urban fantasy, try the Rivers of London books.

Hope that helps.

MW Craven - the Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw series.

Maybe Angela Marsden’s Kim Stone series.
Or if you’re ok with an Irish setting then the Dublin murder squad books (Tana French) are very good.
And Louise Blackwell’s series set in Weston Super Mare as well.
Or - last one! - there’s a series set in Dundee, Scotland by Wendy H Jones, who is a local author and it shows in the accuracy.

Joy Ellis has two sets of detectives, Jackman and Evans and Nikki Galena. I've also enjoyed Faith Martin's books, Kate Ellis and John Harvey, oh and Kerry Wilkinson. I'll stop now Grin

Ann Cleeves, Vera, Shetland and Two Rivers series are excellent.

Wexford as mentioned above is my favourite.

As someone who worked in CID I don’t have much experience of British police procedural crime books because they don’t seem very authentic. I have read a couple of early Mark Billingham novels and enjoyed them. There were no horrendous errors either to distract.

Old but good - Ngaio Marsh's Inspector Alleyn series.
