Meredith, Alone - the cat(s)

I have just finished reading this book.

Can someone sanity check me. When the cat, Fred, went missing Meredith's friend brought over a new kitten, didn't she? What happened to that kitten as it was never mentioned again? Unless I have misread it. Just checked Amazon reviews and nobody mentions it there. Maybe I misread it? Just seems a bit odd to introduce a kitten and then Fred comes back and the kitten is never mentioned again.

It wasn’t a new kitten, it was a flashback to when she first got Fred. Fred was the kitten. Agree it could have been clearer though. I had to reread it.

Oh I see. Thanks for clarifying. Makes sense now. I kept worrying about what had happened to the kitten - d'oh 😺
