We have a tight budget this year so I want to get MIL and Dmum a book from Amazon pref for less than £5. Because it is cheap I need to be thoughtful in my selection.
Can anyone recommend me something?
Serious is OK but nothing too sad or gory.

MIL has just read His Dark Materials and enjoyed Harry Potter (but likes adult books too ) so fantasy perhaps good for her??

Mum reads everything it seems, but didn't enjoy Atonement (too heavy/black) but did enjoy Divine Secrets of the Ya ya sisterhood and The Kite-Runner .

Please help.

The is because they are quite different books btw, not because they are rubbish books .

I enjoyed both the Ya Ya sis and Kite Runner.
I suggest you just send a card each if budget is tight.

But if you must send a book each, do either of them like Alexander McCall Smith?

Oh, yes. Mum has the Mme Ramotswe ones. I think that would be a good idea for MIL though. I think she would enjoy them. Thanks.
Anyone else. I do want to get them something, just not the traditional £20 on flowers.....

I love Jodi Picoult books but my all time favourite has to be The Red Tent. Its a biblical story celebrating the lives of women and in particular Dinah who is briefly mentioned in the Bible.

I sounds really naff but I loved it even though I am not particularly religious.

That look very interesting, thank you...

You can send flowers for £10 through Jersey flying Flowers though not sure if that is right name.

One of the sequels/prequels to Ya Ya Sisterhood?

VanillaPumpkin · 21/02/2008 21:15

I think I am going for Notes from an Exhibition for my Mum and Random Acts of Heroic Love for MIL. I trawled another thread on here for some inspiration as well are reading the Amazon reviews. £3.99 each too.
I think I will get the Red Tent for my Mum in the future though. I think she would like that one.
TotalChaos. Thank you but I bought the prequel as I loved it too and I have lent her that in the past.
So what do you think?
