I'm reading Blood & Beauty by Sarah Dunant as recommended by another MNer.

What are you reading and is it any good? Wink

The Maid

Too early to know

I just read Romantic Comedy though, and before that lessons in Chemistry. The latter lost it a bit right at the end, but otherwise both were excellent

The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. I’m finding it unbelievably long-winded and boring, but I just want to finish and get it to the charity shop now. I’ve read two other novels since I started!

I've become much less tolerant of boring books. I don't know if it's my age, I'm conscious that I'll only be able to read so many books before I finally have to stop for one reason or another or if I'm just less tolerant generally because if the Menopause Grin

The Lincoln Lawyer - Michael Connelly. I read it many years ago but have no recollection of the plot. I’m enjoying it so far.

HadEnough2023 · 20/05/2023 11:15

Toss up between Maid by Stephanie Land or Aurora by David Koepp haven't decided yet.

RashOfBees · 20/05/2023 11:26

I’m usually less tolerant too, but I lost my love of reading over the various lockdowns and was abandoning book after book increasingly early on until I stopped reading almost entirely for a good while. I’m back into it after a run of good books, but since it’s still early days I’m trying to maintain a bit of discipline!

I reread all of the Harry Potter books over lithe first lockdown or I'm sure I would have been the same Wink

Girl A by Abigail Dean

mynameiscalypso · 20/05/2023 11:37

I've downloaded The Maid to take on holiday tomorrow. I fear it's one of those books though that I'll keep thinking about starting and then not quite get the enthusiasm for it.

FallHappy1 · 20/05/2023 12:27

Halfway through No Way Out by Cara Hunter. I've read it before, but she currently has a new book out, and I need to reread the others 😂

Aworldofmyown · 20/05/2023 12:33

I'm reading 'The Marriage Portrait' Maggie o'farrell. I'm not loving it, which is a shame as I usually love her books.

PeskyRooks · 20/05/2023 13:39

I'm reading Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver and I'm loving it!
I've only just discovered her books, don't know why but for some reason I thought she was a crime writer so haven't even looked at her books. Now I am so happy to have all her books ahead of me!

SpikeWithoutASoul · 20/05/2023 17:47

Someone on MN said Mary Stewart was their favourite comfort read author. I’d never even heard of her, but looked her up and am just starting Madam, Will You Talk? Enjoying so far.

yoshiblue · 20/05/2023 18:41

Just started V for Victory by Lisss Evans to complete the trilogy. Seems like an easy read and straight back into the characters.

mirages08 · 20/05/2023 18:43

The valkyrie by Kate heartfield

Somanycats · 20/05/2023 18:44

Bleak House. Loving it.

RenoDakota · 20/05/2023 18:49

Those Who Are Loved by Victoria Hislop. Have never read any of hers before but am on holiday in Greece so it sort of had to be done.
Found it in the hotel library and am really enjoying it.

Nellieinthebarn · 20/05/2023 18:52

What with lock down overdose of reading, a heart attack and a year of depression, I'm only just getting back into reading. I'm late to the party but have just started the Rivers of London series. I'm on book 2, and loving it so far.

I’ve just started this. Never read a Victoria Hislop novel before. Enjoy your holiday.

The Midnight House by Amanda Geard - it’s a really lovely story

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 20/05/2023 19:35

Go Like A River by Shelley Reed/Reid. Hoping it's a bit like Crawdads!

PermanentTemporary · 20/05/2023 19:37

Vietnam by Max Hastings, very slowly. It's very good.
