I'm reading Blood & Beauty by Sarah Dunant as recommended by another MNer.

What are you reading and is it any good? Wink

Hostage by Clare Mackintosh.
Started it two days ago. Completely gripped!

I'm reading 'The Marriage Portrait' Maggie o'farrell. I'm not loving it, which is a shame as I usually love her books.

I didn't love it as much as I wanted to.

I've started Atlas : the story of Pa Salt by Lucinda Riley / Harry Whittaker. It is HUGE .

MrsMouse03 · 20/05/2023 22:37

I'm just reading Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson which is quite enjoyable. Before that The Other passenger by Louise Candlish which I really liked.

I’ve just started this. Never read a Victoria Hislop novel before. Enjoy your holiday.

Thank you.
It's nice to think of someone out there reading the same book at the same time.

Having just abandoned (another) book the other day, I started The Last of Summer by Kate O'Brien last night. A Virago Modern Classic, set in Ireland. I like it so far (only on chapter 2) but I've got to a stage where I'm almost scared I'm going to be disappointed again. Sad

ThreeKneeRepeater · 21/05/2023 07:23

Still Life by Sarah Winman
i can’t seem to get into it but I’ll persevere.

I read This Must be the Place earlier in the year and enjoyed that one. Might give this one a serve now, thank you Wink

I'm reading Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver and I'm loving it!
I've only just discovered her books, don't know why but for some reason I thought she was a crime writer so haven't even looked at her books. Now I am so happy to have all her books ahead of me!

Prodigal Summer is my favourite of hers, and two early ones, The Bean Trees and it’s sequel Pigs in Heaven.

I think KOB is a genius, but that is one of her weaker novels, for me. Have you read any of her others? Mary Lavelle (young Irish governess in 1920s Spain falls for a married man) is great, or The Land of Spices (set in a convent school), or my favourite, her last novel, As Music and Splendour (two young Irish sopranos working in opera in Italy in the 1890s).

Maggiesgirl · 21/05/2023 09:25

Echo in the bone by Diana Gabledon, the 7th in the Outlander Series, have read it many times before, but as the 7th Season is about the start on TV thought I would refresh my memory.

CharlottenBurger · 21/05/2023 09:31

'Stet', Diana Athill's memoir of a life in publishing. Very funny in places and interesting. Some wise things about writing.

Biscuitandacuppa · 21/05/2023 09:37

The Murderer’s Apprentice by Ann Granger. Historical crime fiction set in Victorian times. I’ve read one of the series already and I like that it is told from two characters viewpoints, the detective and his equally intelligent wife.

hoochycrone · 21/05/2023 09:43

Oo 'Earthlings' by Sayaka Murata. Japanese, quirky, triggering but very good.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 21/05/2023 09:45

Fly Away by Kristin Hannah - Sequel to Firefly Lane. Didn't know it existed until I saw a sm post yesterday & was ridiculously over-excited I had to start straight away.
Will go back to Mum what's wrong with you after!

owloak · 21/05/2023 09:48

Harry Potter- for the first time ever. I'm 30! (On book 2) Grin

IHeartGeneHunt · 21/05/2023 09:50

Night Music: Nocturnes Volume 2 by John Connolly. Very good, I love his way of writing.

beguilingeyes · 21/05/2023 11:12

We just watched Slow Horses (bloody amazing) so I'm reading the books. I've just started the second one, Dead Lions.

Jackienory · 21/05/2023 11:15

The Millionth Chance. James Leasor. Original 1957 copy.

cordelia16 · 21/05/2023 12:03

I've decided to read all six of the books shortlisted for Women's Prize 2023.

Yesterday I started and finished Trespasses. I thought it was brilliant.

This morning I started Pod.

Papergirl1968 · 21/05/2023 12:11

The Virgin's Lover by Philippa Gregory, about Elizabeth 1 and Robert Dudley. Really enjoying it although I find some of the language a bit inauthentic e.g. He gave a sexy smile.

Norugratsatall · 21/05/2023 12:29

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. Only 200 pages in but enjoying it so far. I'm going on holiday later this week and am thinking I should prob have started something smaller (it's such a tome!) to stow away in my handbag.

unicornsinspace · 21/05/2023 12:36

I found you - Lisa Jewell

I've been in a reading slump for a long while and I really like Lisa Jewell's books so I'm hoping it gets me back in to reading.

Absolutely loved this book. Really worth reading.

Atlas - the story of Pa Salt - Lucinda Riley/Harry Whitaker.

Been looking forward to this book for ages, and so far, so good. However, it’s slightly bittersweet, knowing the author has passed away.

SilverShadowNight · 21/05/2023 13:45

@Nellieinthebarn I love the Rivers of London series too and the Audible narrator is excellent.

I've just finished a Joy Ellis book, considering what to start next.
