I really thought she was a fantastic children's writer.
She won lots of awards a few years ago for Five Children On The Western Front which is a wonderful sequel to E Nesbitt's Five Children and It.
My favourite though was Beswitched, a really funny and charming take on the classic 1930s girls' boarding school books. I only re-read it recently when I was sick in bed and in need of some cheer.
Beautiful obituary in the Guardian.
