I can't put this down, she's such a great character. I remember reading Rachel's holiday 25 years ago so it feels very nostalgic.

See I loved Rachel's Holiday and think Marian Keyes is wonderful but I did not enjoy that sequel at all.

I really enjoyed it! So funny and moving. And I'm so glad we got more insight into the rehab centre as I always found those parts fascinating. I still love Rachel's Holiday and reread it every so often.

Gothambutnotahamster · 17/04/2023 20:03

I loved it too but it had been years since I read the original which I think helped with the enjoyment (whereas there was a thread on here at the time pointing out all the inconsistencies with the other books!)

OrionNebula · 17/04/2023 20:14

Rachel's Holiday is one of my favourite books and I really enjoyed the sequel too, although didn't think it was quite as good.

I loved all the Walsh books and can't really remember any glaring inconsistencies - would be curious to know what others spotted!

She's writing another sequel about Anna now Smile

Oh can you link to the thread

I'd like to read that thread too ! I really enjoyed it but kind of wished it had ended differently but I'm not sure how

Nowillpowerarall · 17/04/2023 20:48

Ooh no spoilers I'm halfway through!

Gothambutnotahamster · 17/04/2023 20:52

Sorry but I'm on the app & don't know how to link threads but I've just found it in the Threads I'm on - it's from February 2022 and is called 'Again, Rachel with spoilers'

There is a big spoiler in the first or second post, so don't read the thread until you're finished book!

Same

iamme21 · 17/04/2023 20:54

I loved it!

I listen to the audiobook that Marian Keyes narrates. Loved it

OrionNebula · 17/04/2023 21:05

Just found that thread. The main inconsistency referred to (avoiding spoilers!) is something mentioned in an E-book I haven't read (Mammy Walsh's A-Z) so that didn't bother me. Others talk about Helen's personality being inconsistent with previous books (again, avoiding spoilers). I didn't see it that way, I saw Helen as having evolved and mellowed considerably due to her experience of mental illness and thought it was quite believable.

Nowillpowerarall · 20/04/2023 18:03

Thank you. Off to find that thread

I can't find it, if anyone can do a link that would be great!

I did too. I was driving up to Scotland and didn't want the journey to end. It was absolutely brilliant hearing Marian's voice on the narration. She knew exactly where to emphasise words to make you laugh out loud.

Nowillpowerarall · 21/04/2023 07:22

Thank you

I enjoyed it but I really noticed how very very obsessed Marian Keyes has got with designer labels in the years since Rachel first landed at the Cloisters (and took the piss out of poor Chaquie's piles of cosmetics).
