BBC2 Between the Covers

Am I missing something here? What is the point in rushing through a dozen books in half an hour where everybody agrees that they are all marvellous. Even DH, who is not a bibliophile and doesn't really watch the programme, commented on it - unprompted - last night.
I must admit that I did see Alan Davies baulk at a book the other week and my estimation of him went right up.Grin The rest just sound like short, shallow book-cover-blurbs come to life.

I much prefer Radio 4's A Good Read where they go into depth, and sometimes disagree, on just the three books.

I watched it last night and was just getting increasingly irritated by all the 'clever' puns that Sarah Cox keeps coming out with.

I think the time they give to each book is really uneven - Katy Melua was the only one who spoke about her book but they rattled on about others for quite a while.

Yes I noticed they rarely say anything critical and are very gushing about all the books.

I know what you mean but I do find it a relaxing watch.
They do try to cover too many books in one episode though.

I watched a few episodes but have had no desire to watch anymore because I find it contrived, unfunny and as others have said, one-sided in the guests opinions of the books discussed. I wonder if the lack of criticism is because there may be deals with the production company and the publishers? When I was recently in WH Smith I noticed that the books discussed have 'Between the Covers pick' stickers on.

I wish someone would revive Late Review.

But ... but ... it's the BBC. They are not supposed to sell their soul to the highest bidder.Shock

I enjoy it but long for someone to disagree about how amazing all the books are

I love this programme and have bought and enjoyed quite a few of the books mentioned.
I am a huge fan of Sara Cox though 🤣
Yes, I also like it when the guests talk about why they didn’t like a book but that seems rare.

A Good Read is so much better. I gave up on BTC because it was so shallow
