I know it's my fault but anyone has an idea what fine for overdue children's books?. I totally forgot I had to return them. Overdue by a week!

My library don't fine for children's books. Adults is 20p a day.

Ours doesn't fine for children's books, only adults books, too.

Just take them back and apologise profusely 😀

I'm on the edge of two towns so members of both libraries. Neither charge for overdue kids books.

MsAmerica · 11/03/2023 00:53

Doesn't it vary by location? Why don't you just telephone them to ask?

Buttalapasta · 12/03/2023 14:48

Mine doesn't charge for any books luckily! I don't think I've ever known a library to charge for children's books.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/03/2023 15:15

No fines for kids books in Kirklees.

Creepybookworm · 13/03/2023 00:30

No fines on children's books in my area.

Barleysugar86 · 13/03/2023 00:33

Our library is 20p per book on an adult account, no fine on a kids account. So I do get fined for kids book overdue on my account.

They suggested making a kids account to not get fined again as the books are all for them but I've only been fined three times (60p total) and I figure the library can probably use the funds so I don't mind taking the hit when I mess up.

I think you can log on to nearly all libraries online now, or phone them etc. If you google your local council/library service and you have the card that you borrowed the books on, you may be able to log in to the library service and

(a) find out whether you are going to be charged a fine - most libraries don't fine children but it might depend on whether you borrowed them on your kids' library card or borrowed kids' books on an adult card
(b) possibly renew the books until you can get them back
(c) keep tabs on your account and kids' account(s) online
(c) check opening days and hours etc
(d) apply for membership for your kids
(e) see what services they offer and what books etc you and your kids might be able to borrow
(f) find out how to contact your library staff

Are the books borrowed on your card or a child's card? Most don't fine on children's accounts but policies vary on kids' books borrowed on an adult card.

@elkiedee Hey I returned them already. Well the funny thing is that the library computer systems in our area have been completely changed and DDs account was not even showing that books have been borrowed in the first place. But I just returned them at the counter.
