Woman travels to Spain (?), falls asleep on a beach and child nearly drowns. She has a fling with the man who rescued the child but it then becomes apparent she was being coerced. Very unclear on the timescales - what's first/during/after!

Anyone?

Could it be 'The Lost Daughter' by Elena Ferrante?

BellaEllaWella · 10/02/2023 13:22

It’s a Sabine Durrant book - Take Me In

strandedabroad · 10/02/2023 13:54

It's neither of those!

Is it the one where she finds a book by her bed telling the real story of what happened? I'm trying to remember the title of it.

strandedabroad · 10/02/2023 22:08

@PlaitBilledDuckyPuss maybe! I can't remember.

There's something about the boy sleeping in an adjoining room and hearing/witnessing her with her 'lover/abuser'...

Yes, fairly sure it's the same one but I can't for the life of me remember the title. Grrr! The boy has an inflatable and drifts out to sea.

Needmorelego · 10/02/2023 22:34

Is it 'Disclaimer' by Renee Knight?

strandedabroad · 10/02/2023 23:00

@Needmorelego it is! 100%! Well done. I'd completely forgotten the main plot/events, it all makes sense now! Thank you. @PlaitBilledDuckyPuss is this what you were thinking?

@strandedabroad yay I was right 🙂

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 10/02/2023 23:38

Yes, it was! Thank you @Needmorelego for saving me hours of trying to winkle the title out from the depths of my menopausal brain.😃

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 11/02/2023 00:36

What was the reason op? Was it good? Worth the read? I might give it a go!

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 11/02/2023 00:49

I enjoyed it, though if I recall correctly, the thing about the book was bigged up far more in the blurb than was warranted. A good holiday read.

strandedabroad · 11/02/2023 08:12

It was just bugging me, no reason in particular. It was an ok read but nothing extraordinary. 6/10 for me!
