Doing something about my TBR pile

I have so many unread books on various shelves. All bought because I think I will enjoy them but I keep skipping over them or buying more. So, in an effort to actually read some of them I have created a lucky dip. I aim to pick at least 1 a month inbetween other reads. I will give each book 50 pages or so to grab me & if it doesn't it will get passed on/donated. Either way it will be cleared from the TBR

My first pick was Thing In Jars by Jess Kidd which I am really enjoying.

Brilliant idea. I have about six tbr books and am trying not to buy any more for a while.

ChessieFL · 18/01/2023 08:18

Ooh that’s a good idea. I do exactly the same - loads of books that I definitely do want to read, just not right now, so they sit there for years. What I do at the moment is ask my DD to chose a book for me - she’s good at picking the ones that have been hanging around for a while!

This is a great idea. I sorted my tbr pike put over Christmas and donated loads of unread books. Some of them had sat there for literally years, so I obviously wasn't that keen on reading them!

I have over 60 TBR and daren't look at my kindle. I'm determined to stop buying books until I've tried these.

I daren't count how many I actually have. I only had enough paper to wrap 13. I made sure they were all a similar size/length and i'm trying to forget which ones are in there. My kindle is pretty well stocked too although I haven't bought any for a while.

That’s a brilliant idea. Made me think of ablinddatewithabook too though you can often work out what book is inside from their clues on the wrapping.

I only had enough paper to wrap 13.

This made me laugh. The reality of being a book lover with too much enthusiasm and too little time to actually read Grin

This is genius!

SilverShadowNight · 18/01/2023 08:46

Love this and love your reading figure.

I've used a random number generator before now for my kindle, but ended up not wanting to read the one it had chosen. Now I've created a TBR collection where I add in books that have been sat on my kindle for years, and like you, aim to read one a month.

I love this! I'm another who uses my children to pick from list, it's a really good way of doing it as they get their heart set on you reading the one they chose so you're commited! I'm tempted to wrap some for me to pick from but I think they'd just unwrap them when my back was turned....

tobee · 19/01/2023 02:35

This a very good idea and I'm very impressed that you managed to wrap them.

Buttalapasta · 19/01/2023 08:32

Love it! Our local library wrapped surprise books for Christmas. We put some under the tree and my kids were more excited by them then actual presents!
