Hi

I’m in a book club at work and we have a theme each month. We don’t all read the same book. This month’s is ‘Bucket List Book’, I.e a book that you have always meant to read. I have a week or two to read either Wuthering Heights or Little Women.

which would you read?

Little Women

Haven’t actually read WH but Little Women is amazing. I don’t know how many times iHave read it but it’s the only book I’ve ever had to replace due to it being so worn.

mnahmnah · 04/01/2023 19:47

I was leaning towards Little Women!

Little Women is easier going

mnahmnah · 04/01/2023 19:49

Easy going is what I need! My brain can’t cope with anything demanding after a day at work. Thanks

I’m going to be the lone voice here saying that Little Women was boring. Wuthering Heights is gritty, mean and so awful but the prose is wonderful, the atmosphere real and it blows my tiny mind that such a young person could have written those characters.

I love Wuthering Heights, far more interesting than Little Women (though I do love that too)

ThatshallotBaby · 04/01/2023 20:57

Wuthering Heights. It’s brilliant.

TreesAtSea · 04/01/2023 21:30

Wuthering Heights! I'd opt for a Brontë novel over another one any day.

BigMadAdrian · 04/01/2023 21:40

Tough choice. Wuthering Heights is utterly miserable and full of awful people. Little Women is twee and irritating.

mnahmnah · 04/01/2023 21:44

@BigMadAdrian

Well they sound an equally bad choice now!!

Sorry! I do like lots of books, just not these two 😁.

blinkbonny · 04/01/2023 22:15

Little Women. I think everyone should read it, but I do understand the people who find it a bit twee. WH I respected but didn't really enjoy. LW I loved. I'm envious of you getting to experience it for the first time!

mnahmnah · 05/01/2023 11:44

Little Women it is! Thanks everyone. I will let you know how I’m finding it once I get going

Wuthering Heights for me. Little Women is bland and insipid in comparison.

This is spot on, but the very reason to read Wuthering Heights!

I hold a controversial belief that Nelly Dean is the worse character in the book, such a shit stirrer.

I agree. Put Little Women in the freezer and read Wuthering Heights instead!
