Does anyone know a way to get library books onto a regular kindle?
My library doesn't subscribe to Overdrive and I hate reading on a tablet.

U can’t. It only works in other countries Even then not all of them. It’s so annoying and I wish I knew if they were going to change this. Sorry

Lifesyoungdream · 28/12/2022 16:32

I have BorrowBox but it only works on my iPad.

Thanks @Paranoidandroidmarvin .
Yes I can get library books on a tablet but reading on a phone or tablet is nothing like a kindle.
I have an old Kobe, you can transfer books on with a cable but it's so temperamental it's not worth the effort.
I'm annoyed at being enslaved by Amazon but I will never go back to paper books.

You can use the ecalibre app but I didn't tell you that.

snowsilver · 31/12/2022 15:58

@drspouse I think that's what I was after Wink. Looks complicated though.

Won't move DRM protected file sadly.

There is a plug in for calibre that will do what you need and then you may be able to upload them to your kindle but Kobo is much easier to use all round.

drspouse · 31/12/2022 20:51

Yes you do need a plugin. Just Google it, it's quite easy.

Do you have an Amazon fire? I do and I can use it on there. Actually, I have BorrowBox on my phone, but I have overdrive on my Amazon fire.

snowsilver · 31/12/2022 22:16

Amazon fire is a tablet and not the same as reading on a kindle or other e reader.
I have a very old temperamental kobo which isn't a patch on kindle and is too unreliable. Sadly I'm a hostage to amazon because I have so many books tbr. It's just there are some library ebooks I want.
I will google plugins.
Thanks.

I’m sorry I can’t help you but can you help me? How is reading on a kindle better/different than on a phone or tablet? I read loads but I use the kindle app on my iPhone, would a kindle improve my reading experience?

snowsilver · 31/12/2022 22:22

@Lettingthishappen A kindle is massively better than a phone or tablet IMO.
It's designed to mimic a book and easier on the eyes.

Thank you! I appreciate your help, I’ll have a look at some.

I use Borrowbox on a Kobo and it is very straight forward, I would also not mention the use of calibre which others have also not mentioned! It will solve your issue with a kindle.

I don't understand what you mean. I read all my books now on Amazon fire. It is a kindle! It's not a kindle paperwhite, but I gave up on that because I wanted to read library books. It's absolutely fine for reading on.

drspouse · 01/01/2023 09:11

Amazon Fire has a backlight. It's Kindle brand but it isn't an e reader.
Proper Kindles have a much softer light and are only used for reading and have no other apps.
