Fire and Blood: anyone read this?

I am reading this now and finding it so much duller than ASOIAF. Also so much more violent! Practically everyone dies horribly. I am enjoying the dragon lore though.

Anyone else read this?

Yes me, I enjoyed it because it zips along quite fast. I liked the faux history of it when the narrator compares differing accounts of what happened.

The faux history is annoying me. The whole " Mushroom said this but we cannot be sure because he is an unreliable witness"...:)

I will keep reading though because I don't want to wait 2 years for the next House of Dragons.

Oh well, if you don't like that then I guess it's not going to improve.

Sorry didn't mean to sound ungracious! Just thinking aloud. I have got to Corlys ' Velaryon's past which is interesting.

Read the Dunk and Egg novellas if you want more Targaryan history but with traditional story telling instead of the History book style. I think they were packaged together as "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms"

Don't worry you didn't, we all like different things! I read a lot of history books so it made me feel right at home and I liked the ambiguity of some of the incidents.

Yes, I'm reading if for the second time following watching House of the Dragon. This is one of those rare occasions where I think the screen adaptation was better than the book!

It is a misery-fest, death, rape and horror throughout, virtually all the characters are rather unlikable. The descriptions of the dragons are the best parts.
