No spoilers! Although I suppose saying there is a big twist is a bit of a spoiler in itself.

Mine is Sophie’s World. My dd is reading it at the moment and I can’t wait for her to get to it!

Expecting lots of people to say Fingersmith! That was a good one too.

Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. One of Sarah Waters' favourite authors.

Defiantlynot41 · 22/11/2022 10:49

Gone girl by Gillian Flynn

Before I go to sleep by SJ Watson , possibly more of a dawning realisation than an instant twist

MandyMotherOfBrian · 22/11/2022 10:58

We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, Karen Joy Fowler. Though the ‘twist’ comes long before the end. Made me sad 😞

Vicdad1992 · 22/11/2022 11:03

Just started Good Girl. Enjoying it so far :)

CrossPurposes · 22/11/2022 11:21

Affinity by Sarah Waters (and Fingersmith obviously)

Also A Fatal Inversion and A Dark-Adapted Eye by Barbara Vine

Clawdy · 22/11/2022 11:39

The Burning Air by Erin Kelly. Breathtaking twist.

MrsJackRackham · 23/11/2022 08:09

The Midwife by Tricia Cresswell. I knew something was coming but didn't guess what.

Stealthfart · 24/11/2022 19:11

A God in Ruins, by Kate Atkinson.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/11/2022 19:16

Nothing will ever beat The Murder of Roger Ackroyd in my opinion. Agatha Christie laid all other twists out with that one!

Newuser82 · 24/11/2022 19:44

Ooh most Jodi picoult books!!

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 24/11/2022 19:52

I remember the first time I read Fingersmith. It was after midnight & I had work the next day, so I decided to finish the chapter I was on & then go to sleep.

But it was that chapter.

The next day involved a lot of coffee.

DaanSaaf · 24/11/2022 19:55

The other side of midnight by Sidney Sheldon

A God in Ruins, by Kate Atkinson.

Ditto this, could hardly bear the end, but was so good

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 24/11/2022 20:07

Gillespie and I by Jane Harris

GrouchyKiwi · 24/11/2022 20:08

Perfect Strangers by JT Geissinger

Terpsichore · 25/11/2022 19:19

The Expendable Man - Dorothy B. Hughes. A whopping great twist that you just don’t see coming.

Devotion by Hannah Kent

For one charcter, Handful Of Dust takes a very surprising turn late on.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 26/11/2022 19:47

So glad to see others mentioning Fingersmith! That twist stayed with me for AGES.
