Chums by Simon Kuper

I'm about 3/4 of the way through Chums by Simon Kuper, after being nudged towards it by this amazing podcast about Boris Johnson: British Scandal: Mayor on a Zipwire

Now I'm not naive, I'm a bit of a politics junkie and I knew that these men were all linked but... WTFuck?! This has all been years in the making with Brexit and the entire shit show all conceived in The Oxford Union back before I was even born!

This book has shocked and appalled me so far and I'm looking for anyone else who's read it to discuss it with. Just a few of the things that have shocked/interested me.

  • just how many of our PMs and chancellors post war have had no post-16 maths education, with not much emphasis on it even before that (because Eton is more of an Artsy place).
  • a compelling argument that Brexit is really all about these men not inheriting the empire that their fathers and grandfathers presided over.

Anyone want to chat about it?
