When I was in high school in the late 80s, I remember reading this book and I can’t for the life of me find out what it’s called.
Its about a teenage girl from a poor family who lives in Yorkshire, for some reason I think it was Harrogate or Halifax. She works in a hotel or cafe because I remember her talking about chilblains when she puts her hands in hot water to wash up but I think she’s also still at school.
Anyway, a rich woman takes an interest in her and starts buying her presents and driving her around in her expensive car and it turns out it’s because the girl looks just like the woman’s dead daughter, who I thought was called Camilla but I can’t find it anywhere. I’m pretty sure the name of the book is the name of the dead daughter.
Does anyone have any idea which book this is or have I dreamt the whole thing! 😂
