I've always enjoyed reading self help books & self development. Are there any particular ones that stand out for you and that you recommend to other people frequently?
Thank you.

No, although I find best-selling Dale Carnegie's How to Stop Worrying and Start Living to be retro fun.

How about telling us your favorites?

Thank you, @Ms America. I haven't come across that one, so shall look it up.
I like most of the Ryan Holiday books following the stoics: Ego is the Enemy, Stillness is the Key.
101 Essays by Brianna Weist is a beautiful book and has many words of wisdom.
Surrounded by Idiots and Lost Connections are both good books too. There are so many out there, that I find recommendations are good to avoid me wasting my money 😊

The Joy of being Selfish by Michelle Elma - it’s about setting healthy boundaries.

Oh thanks @TheIsaacs I've never come across that one but I am interested in the topic.

Maybe there's a distinction to be made between books that hope to teach something specific - how to lose weight, how to be a better parent, how to manage your money - versus books that are simply general "words of wisdom."

There was a great book, years ago, declaring that all self-help books are useless, as proven by the fact that they continue to proliferate.

I like Oliver Burkeman's books also Happy by Derren Brown which contains an introduction to Stoicism. I think that half of the aibu threads would disappear if everyone was more stoic.

Cleaning up your mental mess by Dr Caroline Leaf I highly recommend. Then use her app.

The subtle art of not giving a fuck by Mark Manson. It's a long time since I've read it but I remember agreeing with most of it.

Housework Blues, a survival guide. By Danielle Raine. This one did actually reframe my hatred of housework (slightly). I think it may be time to reread it.
