I need something I can get cheap on my kindle to read on long trains tomorrow. I don't like crime / murders. Some of my faves are things like 'a thousand splendid suns' Khaled Hosseini, 'the rosie project' Graime Simsion, 'the humans' by Matt Haig, the Abhorsen series, anything Joanne Harris, Sebastian Faulks, and also Jilly Cooper! I've recently read these for my book club - 'all my mothers', 'they both die at the end', 'everything I know about love'. Any suggestions really appreciated!

I would recommend ‘The Only Plane in the Sky’ it’s an oral history of 9/11, loved by many bookish mumsneters and a really well told account. Plus 99p at the mo.

Larchfield by Polly Clark.

@Palegreenstars oh my gosh I was going to suggest this!

I'm just getting through the epilogue now. Such a great but upsetting book. Has made me watch loads of 9/11 documentaries as well because I have so many questions
