I read this whole book in bed last night, and then I couldn't sleep for thinking about the ending.

Has anyone else read it? What did you think happened at the end?

Oh wow, I finished this on Friday night. Have no *ing idea what had happened by the end. It was so readable, Changez was a fantastic character, I could believe in Erica.

I could relate to the disillusionment with the US, the beard, leaving the job, the trauma, returning to Pakistan. But? Who was he talking to? And then what happened? The waiter? The man he was talking to? Who were they?

I find it difficult to believe that the main character had become fundamentalized to the extent that he was ambushing the American. Is that what we are supposed to believe?

TBH, the book left me feeling v. dim, as I've obviously totally missed the point.

Wow here too! I read it in bed from cover to cover on Thursday night - much the same experience as CocoDeBearisCocoDeBear. Loved it though.

Glad it's not just me.

Glanced at your profile, Swampster. I'm in S london too. SE.

I loved it too. Isn't it odd that between three of us, we're still unsure about the ending?

I like my books to have a clear-cut ending, with all no ambiguity.

Hi Coco, I'm in Brixton. Saw you'd bought the Bookers from the Book People - I did exactly the same - made a great Christmas pressie for DH (he thinks, but I benefit).

swampster, you're just down the road then, I'm in ED.

Fancy joining our book circle? I'm looking for more people so we can get it started.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist was the first book I've managed to read all the way through in AGES (aside from The Gruffalo, Charlie and Lola, Harry and his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs, Hairy Maclary...). - Also read Half of a Yellow Sun but that's probably me done for the next year .
