Is anyone else reading this?
All I can say is how tremendous it is. The recent translation of the 1st 3 volumes has just been published. The only minus is, that at 600 pages, I've got to return it to the library before I've finished.
The author was born in Kiev (then in Russia) at the end of the 19th century, dying in 1968.
He writes about his life, but also about the beauty of the land around him.
Where I am at the moment, is when his is a medic on the russian/german front in WWI. It's absolutely gripping.

Ooh, my DF has just read this and loved it. He has passed it on to us, for DS to read as he studied Russian for several years, but I might nab it and read it first.

I've had to return it to the library with the last 200 pages unread - just as the Russian Revolution has started.
I hope you enjoy it, it will stay with me mentally for a long time.

I have now started reading this and it's absolutely wonderful. The writing is so flowing it just draws you in. It's a long book but I'm racing through it.
