I'm nearly done with my first ever read of a Jane Austen-Northanger Abbey. I'm surprised to say I found it really enjoyable.

I declare Mr John Thorpe to be a total prick, Isabella a scheming gold digger and Captain Tilney a materialistic knob.

What should I read next?

Pride and Prejudice. Easily the best.

Classica · 26/02/2022 20:57

Persuasion and P&P are tied for first place in my opinion.

If one were to be so crude as to rank them! (I am that crude)

Classica · 26/02/2022 20:58

Persuasion probably pips P&P tbh

JayAlfredPrufrock · 26/02/2022 20:58

Well there aren’t many.

DramaAlpaca · 26/02/2022 20:59

Persuasion is my favourite, closely followed by P&P.

SoftSheen · 26/02/2022 21:02

Emma, Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion.

BaileysBreakfast · 26/02/2022 21:03

Emma! It’s much better than the film. In fact don’t whatcha the film if you haven’t already

Vebrithien · 26/02/2022 21:11

Another vote for Persuasion here. Especially as you've already read Northanger Abbey, as it is the only other book set (partially) in Bath. It was her last work, and beautifully written.

Mansfield Park - good general plot, although the main character is a bit passive.

The others have been already mentioned.

Emma - I find her very irritating.

Pride and prejudice - love the story, always picture Colin Firth ...

Sense and sensibility - Marianne's wallowing gets on my nerves a bit, Lucy's scheming is world class. Eleanor is a bit of a martyr.

123fushia · 26/02/2022 21:12

Persuasion for me.

OverByYer · 26/02/2022 21:14

All of them, but Emma probably pips it for me

SickAndTiredAgain · 26/02/2022 21:33

There aren’t many, definitely read them all! Persuasion is probably my favourite, closely followed by pride and prejudice. Then sense and sensibility & Emma, then Northanger abbey & Mansfield park.

sausagelastrange · 27/02/2022 16:11

Thank you to you all. I have gone for Mansfield Park next Smile

Then think Persausion and Emma

Persuasion and Sense and Sensibility are my favourites.

stopthepain · 27/02/2022 19:36

Pride and Prejudice is the best! Sense and Sensibility was okay. Hated Mansfield Park. I still need to read Emma.

koalasandbutterflies · 01/03/2022 14:47

Persuasion is my favourite - second chance love story 🥰

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 01/03/2022 15:12

I love Anne Elliot. And the way she pierces Captain Wentworth's soul. I love her awful father too.

Don’t bother with the films but Juliet. Stevenson reading the books on audible is a great treat.
