Off on holiday in Feb and I need something that will keep me gripped on the plane!!

I have never ever read a book more terrifying than The Treatment by Mo Hayder, which I have now read multiple times and need something in a similar vein.
I've read and enjoyed Tess Gerritson, Mark Billingham but nothing has got me like Hayders books.

Any suggestions at all gratefully received!

I read the same authors as you, and recommend any by Karin Slaughter or Linwood Barclay. Harlan Coben too.

I still think about the treatment - couldn’t bear to read it more than once.

Have you read Pig Island by Mo H? Not scary but one of my faves

PuzzlingRecluse · 10/02/2022 15:06

Dark matter by Michelle paver - still haunts me, absolutely brilliant read but terrifying

SomePosters · 10/02/2022 15:07

The news

MistyForTheWin · 10/02/2022 15:08

Hex by Thomas Olde heuvelt. Shit me right up Shock

LeftieLucy, thank you
I've read all of Mo Hayders (loved Pig Island) I only found out today that she has died!
I know exactly what you mean about The Treatment, I've never read anything like it, the hairs still go up on the back of my neck.
I'll have a look at the authors you suggested, apparently Stuart Macbride is pretty good as well in case you would like any suggestions also Smile

Stephen King's The Shining and The Stand are the only books which have ever given me nightmares.

gelert5619 · 10/02/2022 15:38

The most disturbing book I've ever read and will never read again is American Psycho. The film is more like 'In the Night Garden' compared to the book.

serendippity · 10/02/2022 15:39

Thank you, I've look at all your suggestions and they all look good!
@someposters, I began to look up The News...then realised what you meant- you're certainly right there.

I've just re-read The Fear Index by Robert Harris, which is a cracking thriller. Even better is Fatherland, by the same author.

AuntieMarys · 10/02/2022 15:47

Who wrote The News please?

serendippity · 10/02/2022 15:57

@Auntiemarys- I like Someposters meant The News, as in current events etc Smile

This, really unnerving and i read a lot of horror/thrillers
massistar · 10/02/2022 16:20

Have you read any Val McDermid? I'm not a massive crime/thriller fan but utterly gripped by the Tony Hill/Carol Jordan series. Brutal but so well written.

CheeseMuffin · 10/02/2022 16:23

I can third Michelle Paver's Dark Matter. Thin Air, which was her follow up, isn't quite as good but still a very creepy page turner and worth a read.

JonSnowedUnder · 10/02/2022 16:25

Gerald's Game, Stephen King. Best place to read it is in bed alone though rather than a plane!

cheeseisthebest · 10/02/2022 16:26

I just read the plot of the treatment, sounds horrendous.

CheeseMuffin · 10/02/2022 16:30

Urgh so did I @cheeseisthebest and now I wish I hadn't. Grim.

knitknack · 10/02/2022 16:30

I loved Hex! So unique too!

cheeseisthebest · 10/02/2022 16:34

Me too, made me think of that first ever episode of black mirror with the pig which I couldn't ever unsee, only worse.

serendippity · 10/02/2022 16:35

@massistar I haven't but I did watch Wire In The blood and really enjoyed it, I'll have a look, thank you!

I'm clearly half asleep!!!!!

TheDogsMother · 10/02/2022 16:57

Christine by Stephen King really spooked me. I was crossing the road between two parked cars the day after I finished the book. One of the cars started up and I literally left the ground.
