Does your library let anyone join for e books?

Following on from another thread.
Libraries often have access to e books but the availability can be limited and they vary as to what books they list.

It seems some libraries allow you to join for e books even if you don't live in their council tax area. Mine doesn't, you have to live in the county.
I thought if you can get a better choice by using different libraries it might be worth a try.

I have been wondering this too! Does anyone know of a library that allows anyone to join online, regardless of residency, and also allows immediate ebook checkout without a physical visit to the library to get a card?

I know that Oxfordshire libraries allow anyone in the UK to join, but you cannot check out any ebooks without first physically going to a library branch and getting a card. My local Leeds library allows online joining (only for Leeds residents though) and allows you to check out ebooks right away without needing to physically go to the library and get a card. But the selection of ebooks is limited (BorrowBox) and it would be nice to have access to an OverDrive ebook collection.

I've been getting the uneasy feeling that some libraries prefer you use ebooks and are buying fewer and fewer "real" books.

@Perroquet Useful. DS lives in Leeds, I may get him to join and we can share.

I use Libby. I have two libraries signed in there. One from my library and one from where my brother lives. I have tried for others. But u need live or have someone u know live in that area as u need the card and the pin.
It’s annoying as I would love to use it more. But the selection both libraries has for audiobooks ( that’s how I read /listen ) for limited.
