Can I join you? I have got out of the habit of reading anything not directly related to my field of work/study. Xmas has been quiet so I have actually read an unrelated book - still nonfiction but fascinating/depressing. I feel I have got the reading for pleasure bug again - 25 books seems a good target for the year

Runninghorse · 31/12/2021 12:27

For non-fiction I can recommend Empireland by Sathnam Sanghera

StColumbofNavron · 31/12/2021 12:29

Welcome @Runninghorse. Numbers are in no way mandatory, it is just a nice, friendly space to discuss/review and keep track/get other reading ideas. So even if we only manage 3 it is still all good. Personally, I count the children's books I read with DS3 as they are proper chapter books and others count audio so the 'rules' are your own.

I have that on my non-fiction list for this year actually :-)

May I join too please. I have been a lurker for a while. Looking forward to reading more in 2022.

Please may I join? I really want to get my reading mojo back. I am keeping it light with a few psychological thriller/page turner's. I managed 13 last year but the last few months have been dire

TheAnswerIsCake · 31/12/2021 13:34

Thanks StColumbofNavron I’m pulling up my best reading armchair and marking my place!

I absolutely smashed my goal of 26 books last year, in no small part due to this thread which helped me keep finding books I just “had to read” next and make reading a higher priority in my life. As a result I think I’ve plucked the courage to dip my toe in to the 50 books threads next year too, but here feels like home, so I’ll be hanging around here as well.

I also think I might struggle a bit more next year, as I have my Masters Dissertation to complete, a possible job change and to help my son prepare for secondary school entrance exams (we’re in one of those parts of the country ).

Looking forward to seeing what everyone is reading - think I’m starting with Hungry by Grace Dent.

mrsfeatherbottom · 31/12/2021 13:41

I read 40 this year (well, need to finish my last one before midnight!) and am setting the same target this year.

I use the GoodReads app to log them.

livingonpurpose · 31/12/2021 15:12

Looking forward to the chat and inspiration on this thread again. I agree with what TheAnswerIsCake said, this thread really helped me find and maintain my reading mojo in 2021, and gave me so many good recommendations for books that I really enjoyed.

I've already made a list of 25 books that I want to make my way through in 2022 - all of which I already own on my Kindle (or have reserved through my library app). If I make it through those I have plenty more to choose from - and obviously I'm sure I'll pick up a few more recommendations from here.

iwonttaketheeasyroad · 31/12/2021 15:16

Can I join too please?

I tried last year but really lost my reading mojo about half way through the year Nf also run out of ideas. Hoping this thread will keep me going and give me some inspiration. Would also like to try put some non fiction this year.

First up I'm reading Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers. I've heard good things... need a good one to get me going!!!

princessspotify · 31/12/2021 16:36

I'm in again. I've got six books in my cupboard that I'm hoping to get through. I managed 26 books last year.

Theworkhouse · 31/12/2021 18:18

I'd like to join please, I've got permanent eye strain from staring at my phone too much, so I need to get away from it and read a lot more. I prefer reading anyway, it's just so easy to pick up a phone.

This thread seems the perfect place for encouragement, recommendations and not too much pressure. I had about five books for Christmas so will start with one of those, Gaudy Night by Dorothy L Sayers.

Hi can I also join please?
I’ve managed 13 books in 2021 but want to spend less time on my iPad this year and read every day to improve my English (second language).
I want to read at least 12 classics and have already started Anna Karenina - it’s very enjoyable so far!

CookieMumsters · 31/12/2021 18:46

Hi, Can I join please?
I'd like to aim for 26ish, but want to specify that at least 50% should come from my local library.

WordWhirls · 31/12/2021 19:40

Hi, please count me on. I love reading but read only 14 this year. I don’t hesitate to put books down if I’m not enjoying them as my tbr list is forever growing. Looking forward to sharing thoughts and some accountability.

BaconAndAvocado · 31/12/2021 20:32

Hi all, I didn't manage the 25 this year but came close!

Definitely want to up my reading consumption in 2022 and lessen my time online.

Will be starting with one of the Marmite books of 2021, Where the Crawdads Sing (a book group read)

StColumbofNavron · 31/12/2021 22:11

@BaconAndAvocado I very much CJ look forward to your review!

Hi, I'd like to join too. I didn't keep count in 2021 but would guess at about 15 (11 book club plus all the Cormoran Strike books). I am currently part way through Freckles by Cecelia Ahern in hardback, The Midnight Library on audio and Airhead by Emily Maitlis (non fiction) on kindle.

I have a huge TBR pile in the form of charity shop finds and kindle 99p deals.

MargotMoon · 01/01/2022 00:20

Thanks for the new thread @StColumbofNavron

I'm hoping to make a dent in my 'to be read' shelf this year - there's been certain books on there for donkeys years! I need to either read them or give them away, but I always get enticed into buying new books which queue jump!

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 01/01/2022 00:23

I'm aiming for 22 in 2022. I'm counting both audiobooks and hard copy. I think I'd like at least 10 to be work-related/nonfiction.

pontiouspilates · 01/01/2022 00:40

Id love to join, I read 28 last year, if I can say 'read' about the 4 audio books that I obviously listened to! I was really hoping to have finished my current book on 31st, to start the year with a clean slate, but I still have a fair bit of 'All The Light We Cannot See ' to get through (which I am loving) I hope to finish 30 books this year and am happy for them to be a mix of audio and proper books. Happy New Year everyone!

Puddock1 · 01/01/2022 02:15

Happy new year! Count me in too please. I was on a roll last year and managed 62 books. Aim to read 24 from my TBR list and will be banning myself from browsing the 99p kindle deals! I've kicked off with Beartown by Fredrik Backman. Really looking forward to hearing your reviews and recommendations.

Manteo · 01/01/2022 08:26

I think this is the thread for me, the most books I've managed in a year is 30-something so the 50 books thread is a bit intimidating! Managed 23 this year. I own over 100 books that I haven't read, either on my shelves or on my Kindle Blush so my aim is to not buy any more!

@TheAnswerIsCake are you in Kent? I've got that experience coming up in a couple of years!
