What we're reading

I need a Chalet School fix

Please help:

Where can I download a Chalet School book? I'm astonished that I cannot find any as ebook.

(When you're under the weather, nothing quite hits the spot like a bit of EBD escapism.)

Oh I think I’ve read that tropes one before, very funny! Didn’t she technically adopt the Richardson children and another set too?

Imagine the inheritance arguments.

AIBU to be very hurt by this? My father was killed in a space-related accident and my brothers and I were left to fend for ourselves in a hut. A very kind family who were on holiday nearby took us in and we were told we were now adopted members of the family. They are very comfortably off. My adoptive parents are now dead and it turns out our adoption was never legally approved, so our so called 'siblings' are saying we are not included in the will...

Loads of good free stuff on here including masses of Abbey books that I became slightly addicted to Grin They seem to breed even more than the Chalet School and are all called Jan or Joy or Rose!
You do need a kindle though.

Ooh thanks for the faded page link. I could never get into the Abbey books because there were too many and the library didn't have them. Will have to dust off my e reader!
@StrychnineInTheSandwiches Thank you for the Beswitched recommendation! I downloaded it from the library and inhaled it in a couple of hours. Really, really good.
Ah, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was a delight. And I found the end surprisingly moving, which I wasn't expecting. Smile

You don't need a Kindle for fadedpage. There are text and html versions of the books which can be read on any device.

There are a few Chalet School books there too. 'Camp' was just posted the other day.

DameAlyson Apologies, I tend to use Kindle as a generic Smile

I have just had a massive downloading session. Thanks so much to the posters who sent or posted links Grin

Nothing beats holding a book, or running your finger across the shelf to choose a book, but having a massive supply of escapism in a kindle is a very good second best!

Though a kindle does have one huge advantage when reading in bed: I cannot read lying down with my varifocals on, but I can whack the magnification up on a kindle, which allows me to read without my glasses at all. Bliss.

I think I’m going to start on the Ebooks again, I only found out about them through the MN threads and am so glad I did

I've just read Chaz Brenchley's Three Twins at the Crater School - it's a hugely enjoyable send up of the Chalet School if transplanted to Mars! You can tell the author knows and loves the CS books, it's so spot on.

Am off to read Beswitched now, sounds right up my alley!

Which is the most Christmassy one to read today do we think?

FelicityBeedle How about the one where they go to the Mensches for Christmas? And Frau Mensch is shocked that Jo doesn't own any pinafores?

Report
FelicityBeedle · 25/12/2021 20:17

That’s what I went for in the end! I think we should go back to children in pinafores and little boys in shorts and long socks. Very practical!
