Best Anthony Horowitz books?

I was a huge fan of the Alex Rider books when I was younger, and still am, I admit. I read the latest book, Nightshade, when it came out last year, and am looking forward to seeing where the story goes in the next book. Also watching the TV series, though not a huge fan of it.

Which of Anthony Horowitz's 'adult' original mystery novels (not James Bond or Sherlock Holmes spinoffs) would be best for someone who loves Alex Rider? I've skimmed a few pages of some of them, but none seemed to grip me in the way Alex Rider did! (Maybe I'm still a teenager at heart? Grin)

The Word is Murder

and

The Sentence is Death

I also like the Magpie Murders

but the sequels to the MM and the first two, have been disappointing to say the least. I finished the latest one, A Line to Kill tonight and was hoping it would be as exciting and tightly written and hilarious as those I mentioned above, but it was a bit mediocre by comparison, unfortunately.

Yes, Magpie Murders is a good read.
