I need some feedback on this idea of mine to promote my book, PLAYING WITH THE MOON, in the hope that people might log on and vote for me.

I was going to leave copies on trains/in coffee-shops, etc with stickers on the front saying this is a free read, please do take it home and if you enjoy it, please vote for it on the World Book website. And then please leave the book somewhere public for the next person to read.

So my question to kind MNers is: Would YOU pick up a book and do this if you liked the look of it? Would you then vote for it?

I would happily vote for it, because I loved the book (as you know, I already told you in quite groupie-ish fashion )

My only reservation about your plan are:

a) people might feel odd about picking up a book, they may assume that someone has left it there to 'save' their seat or they've forgotten it and will come running back to rescue their book and will get a bit if they are reading it (iykwim) so the stickers would have to be HUGE so that people see them before they realise that the book is there.

As to whether I would vote for it, I would definitely INTEND to (and if you tell me how, I will actually do it now) but if I wasn't actually sitting at the computer at the time, I would probably forget.

I think on the whole, it is a good idea.

But not if it is going to in any way delay the publication of your next book because I WANT IT!

there's a scheme for leaving books in public laces, it's called bookcrossing, if you go to their ws you can download stickers explaining the book has been left there deliberately, and if you want you can register that you've leftthe book, then other bookswappers are alerted, and can post their reviews etc if they choose.

Bookcrossing is already tracking copies of my book, Malentileater, but perhaps I could alert them to the fact it's in the Spread the Word initiative. Thanks for that idea!

Squonk--you're TOO kind to me! No, next book's out in Sept. for definite. The PWTM World Book Daylink is www.worldbookday.com/spreadtheword/ then click on See the books, then in the top right hand click on UK for location and 250-300 words for length and a selection of books will appear, one of which should be PWTM.

Phew. Bit of a complicated way to get to the title, I'm afraid! Thank you for your patience if you've got that far.
