Book for a grieving friend

One of my closest/oldest friends has recently lost her father.

We both love books and as I'm not the best with words I want to get her a book so she knows I'm thinking of her.

Has anyone got any suggestions of a book related to grief that might bring some comfort, or if this isn't appropriate a book that would be comforting in some way.

H is for Hawk by Helen McDonald is about a woman training a hawk but really about how she is processing her grief for her father. Might be a bit too close to your friend's experience or might bring her comfort, it's hard to know.

@MoMandaS , hang on, H for Hawk is a bit hard going for anyone!

Hi op, sorry to hear about the loss of your friends dad, I lost my dad in the pandemic, and I loved the book "the boy, the mole, the fox and the horse" (the titles something like that sorry if that's not exactly right.) Beautiful book, really touched me, although not about grief exactly there's certainly food for thought on life and love in there.

If you like you can ask this question.over in the bereavement section, sadly there's lots of us over there dealing with loss and finding ways to work through it.

I'm sure your friend will be touched that you are thinking of them... honestly it makes all the difference.

Hth xx

The Boy, The Mole etc is a lovely book. I really struggled to read anything after DH died for about a year, couldn’t concentrate, but this is a beautiful dip in book

I suppose it is really - long time since I read it!

Michael Rosen wrote a book called Sad after his son died. It's meant to be good..

Wild by Cheryl Strayed. Of the various ‘grief’ books I read after my dad died, it was by far the best.
