Best self help book you’ve ever read

I’m in a bit of a rut and don’t have a very high opinion of myself. Can anyone recommend any books that’ll help me boost my self esteem? I’m taking action physically (exercising and eating fairly well), but I want some help with the mental side of things. Tia

The Bitch Rules by Elizabeth Wurtzel. don't be put off by the awful title; it's actually a very wise, humane and warm book that contains rules and advice for women. It remains the only self- help book I find genuinely useful.

May I point out that the "best self-help book" may not necessarily be about self-esteem?

Also, while I understand that books are great to point us in the right direction for certain things, the best way to boost your self-esteem is by your actions, not by trying to forcibly revise your opinion of yourself. So maybe what you need instead might be a book on being more organized, or more assertive, or more goal-directed.

Books by Brene Browne have been really helpful to me.I can’t remember which order. I like the audiobooks as I find her voice really soothing.

I second Brene Brown. Lots on YouTube if you want to get a feel. She's an amazing woman.

I really enjoyed Atomic Habits.

RolandOnTheRopes · 02/10/2021 17:53

I recommend 'Jog On' by Bella Mackie. It's about her personal experiences of using exercise (running in her case) to help with anxiety and general life. I read it a while ago but found it very inspiring.

Derren Brown's book "happy" - it has had a profound impact on me. Based on stoicism.

Thehistorygirls · 06/10/2021 22:09

Another vote for Atomic Habits.
