Just read that Mo Hayder has sadly died. Apparently she used to play Miss Belfridge in Are you being Served as well (under a different name)! Sounds like she lead quite an exciting life. Very sad news - MS apparently.

Reading about her, she certainly lived a varied and interesting life - left school and home at 15 as a wild child, worked as a barmaid, model, security guard, film-maker, hostess in a Tokyo club, teacher of English as a foreign language in Asia, actress, author.

I feel quite inadequate now!

MND wasn't it?

Her books were so dark but so good.

Oh gosh, poor love RIP Thanks
Powerful, dark books that stay with you.

She also got 2 degrees, an MA in film from The American University in Washington DC and an MA in creative writing from Bath Spa University UK.

I know what you mean about feeling inadequate!

I was so sad to read this - what a life! Her books are amazing - I'd been looking out for a new title from her for a while - she really was a stand-out in the crime genre.

Saucery · 10/08/2021 18:32

Ah no, she was a great thriller writer Sad

Snozzlemaid · 10/08/2021 20:40

That's so sad to hear.
I'm sure I'd heard a while ago she was writing a new book under a different name.

Mo Hayder wrote a book under the name ‘Theo Clare’ called ‘The Book Of Sands’. It’s due out either later this year or early next year I think. Such sad news.

Oh that is so, so sad. MND is such a cruel disease. I absolutely love her books, they are so elegantly macabre.

efeslight · 18/08/2021 09:08

I am also a fan of her books, dark, and sinister as they are. I thought I read they were going to be made in to a tv series. Does anyone know if this ever went ahead?
What an interesting woman she was.
RIP Mo

Sad news, especially as she was so young. I had no idea she had led such an interesting life. Her books became too dark for me but I enjoyed the earlier ones. I knew someone who lived in what appeared to be the real-life setting of The Treatment, next to Brockwell Park, which made it a bit too close for comfort.

peaceanddove · 18/08/2021 11:28

I would love the BBC to make her books into a series. I've always thought Aiden Turner would make a fantastic Jack Cafferey.

Yes to that!!
peaceanddove · 18/08/2021 22:10

He would be perfect wouldn't he - in all his dark, brooding wonderfulness.

YouSetTheTone · 19/08/2021 13:36

The Jack Caffery book Wolf is currently being adapted by the BBC! I haven’t read anything about the casting though.

peaceanddove · 19/08/2021 17:36

Oh wow! That makes me so happy x
