So, looking for some suggestions for a good summer read. Would love to find a book / series of books that are the ‘can’t put it down, grieve when it’s finished’ kind.
Read some old threads here and got some ideas... wondering about DLSayers - her books have never appealed but maybe I should give them a go - where would you start?
Ideas please!!

I'd be tempted to say read the Sayers books out of strict order and start with the first Harriet Vane book - Strong Poison, followed by Have His Carcase, Gaudy Night and Busman's Honeymoon. But you could also start with Murder Must Advertise, as it's also a brilliant bit of social history because Sayers worked in a ad agency.

I didn't touch detective stories until I accidentally ended up reading The nine Tailors. Sayers is a brilliant writer and as pp says Strong Poison is a great place to start. I read the series one a year for 14ish years (took a lot of self control!) to spread the enjoyment.

Some of the agatha christies are also good. Cat among the pigeons is a good entry level one!

I would definitely recommend DL Sayers. Also Margery Allingham, Ngaio Marsh, Ianthe Jerrold. And yes to Agatha Christie. Oh, and Josephine Tey.
