Was thinking of choosing this for our book group and decided to read it first. I just found it the most sentimental, mawkish story ever. So many people love it, and apparently the film is good, but I really disliked this book. And that last scene!!

I've only seen the first part of the movie as I was told it was a lot better than the book!
Allie is on a date with another man and they're on a ferris wheel. Noah climbs it and forces her to agree to date him instead by threatening to let go and drop to his death. I half expected her actual date to give him a swift kick. It's beyond creepy I have no idea why so many people like it.
From what I understand both book and movie has a very sad ending and I cannot help but hoping it's that Noah dies and she's free to date sane men.

Never read it but had the misfortune to see the film.
Absolute pile of sh*te

The last scene in the book is meant to be uplifting apparently, but I found it really cringey. Not sure how they could have filmed it, so I'm guessing the film had a slightly different ending!

All Nicholas Sparks books are mawkish and regard women pretty appallingly.
