"Baby Wisdom" by Deborah Jackson.
Lots of aspects of parenting but from viewpoint of different cultures. Really really good for making you think that our way is actually perhaps a bit nutso.
Good gift for the parents who have decided at 6 months pregnant that the Contented Baby Book makes so much sense....

THought it was a bit nutso anyway but will have a look at that one. Laughed at your comment re CBB - that's what I thought for about 5 minutes when - yep - about 6 months pregnant! Luckily, it was a fleeting thought.

Ooh a reply!
I am two-thirds of the way through it.
She has basically taken lots of aspects of parenting and cribbed together various bits of anthropology books, childcare books, quotes from people from different cultures - it is fascinating.
The next person I know who gets pregnant with their first child, I will get this book for them as a present. i wish I'd read it: I would have had a lot more confidence, i think.
I am a cynical, wrinkly prune, and I rate this really highly.

I meant to add, the title is terrible, don't let it put you off.
And the cover has a hat and bootees, understandably enough, but it is not a cheesy book - far from it, quite hard-hitting in places.

She wrote Three in a Bed, I think, didn;t she? I remember really liking some articles she wroye when ds was the incredible non-sleeping baby. And toddler.

Yes I think she did
She covers a lot of the same ground possibly in this book
Lots of references to liedloff and continuum concept stuff
So far no mention of Dame Gina
