Books that leave you feeling good

I can’t read books with sad endings at the moment. I’d like a good story that leaves me happy or satisfied with a good ending.

What have people read that they’d recommend?

I love Laurie Colwin’s novels, which are clever and happy, which is a rare combination. She’s not well-known outside the US, and if she is, it’s more for her cookery books, but her novels are being reissued this year, and I thoroughly recommend them.

I would start with Happy All the Time or Family Happiness.

The first one that came to my mind is The Man I Think I Know by Mike Gayle. It does deal with some rather heavy issues but it is very empowering and the ending is very satisfying!

Oh gosh I just read that Laurie Colwin died at the age of 42. Now I can’t read the recommended books as I’ll be thinking of that.
I never used to be this much of a flake but I just want to escape into feel good books. I don’t even mind what genre, as long as the book leaves me feeling positive and the old fashioned ‘good guys win’ in the end satisfaction.

The Accidental Collector by Guy Kennaway, it's been nominated for comedy novel of the year. It's set in the world of galleries and art collectors. Very funny. Nothing depressing in it at all.
