Help me find this MG/YA book

It's been bugging me that I can't remember the title of this book, and Googling isn't helping.

It was either upper MG or lower YA - I think the protagonist was between 10 and 13. She was partially sighted and was kidnapped by two men; one of them was nasty but the other seemed to feel guilty and was kind to her. She let them think she was completely blind to get them off their guard and then escaped, or tried to.

I think they kidnapped her to ransom her parents, but I'm not sure. She may have been Black or mixed-race but I'm even more unsure about that part.

This is all I remember. It was probably published in the late 90s.

Any ideas?

Two suggestions: an early Jacqueline Wilson book called Take a Good Look features a visually impaired girl who gets accidentally kidnapped when she interrupts a burglary at a sweetshop. Or there’s Girl: Stolen by April Henry in which a blind teenager is kidnapped by accident when her Mum’s car is stolen. The kidnappers then find out her father is very wealthy. This was published around 2010 though.

The Kidnapping of Suzie Q by Martin Waddell was published in the mid-90s - could that be it? I don’t recall her being partially sighted but to be fair it is probably 25 years since I read it...

@bookworm14 yes I thought of that one but I don’t think she’s partially sighted.

I read a lot of Jacqueline Wilson so it may well be Take A Good Look, though I read the Look Inside on Amazon and it doesn't ring any bells. I may need to get a copy just to satisfy my curiosity!

I remember this! I think the girl may have been called Bella or something beginning with B. I seem to remember her family took her for drives at weekends in the countryside, and the kidnappers eventually abandoned her outside a pub. Can’t help with the title though! I think I read it in the early 1990s.

At least we know we didn't imagine it, SomeCatsLikeCheese!

Definitely sounds like Take A Good Look. That was first published in 1990. The protagonist in that one is called Mary. She escapes and ends up at a pub.

@LeftyLou, that’s it! No idea where Bella came from Blush.

I only knew it was Mary because I saw it on Goodreads Smile
