LOL @ soupdragon. He can..but it takes "them" that long to get it published. Cover, print run, promo..

Wonderful, Michaelad.

michaelad · 21/11/2007 16:10

Any opinions on the MN library idea, anyone?

Sounds good to me.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 21/11/2007 18:01

Congratulations to your dh, Michaelad! I clicked on your link and am very intrigued by the fact that he does aeronautics and it is about dragons - is there a link?

Re the library idea, I think plugging books on MN is a great idea (I would love to know more about various people who I know are writers) but can't you just start a thread to plug a book? I don't really see the need for a separate section.

michaelad · 21/11/2007 18:02

I mean, we could do a MN shop type thing where only Mumsnetters who have something to sell or plug (be it books or crafty stuff) can advertise their things...will try and contact HQ about this..

Katy, no there is no link as of yet. There might well be one once the first book's published.
Re. library come MN shop... I just thought we could put it all under one header rather than individual threads where people might get accused of wanting to "cash in on the community"..you know how it goes

I have written a lot of books but the money isn't very good. In fact my daughter was asking which one I was proudest of just yesterday and I said the very first. So congratulations to your husband. Your turn next of course. My brother's first book is just out and he's on TV today.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 21/11/2007 19:08

Michaelad - I meant, is there a connection between aeronautics and dragons! Given that dragons fly....

michaelad · 21/11/2007 19:33

Xenia, what type of books are you writing/have you written?

OP posts:
Anna8888 · 21/11/2007 19:37

Congratulations to your DH . It's a wonderful, wonderful feeling when you first get published. I know what Xenia means when she says her first book is the one she is most proud of - I felt that way too, there's the feeling that you proved yourself. Very exciting.

michaelad · 21/11/2007 19:40

thank you Anna! Yes, the stunned silence at the other end of the phone when I told him (he was at work)and the look on his face when he came home are things I will never forget!!!

The first book is special. I remember when my authors' copies first arrived and I just sat there fondling them for hours.

boo64 · 21/11/2007 20:47

That's even more impressive Michaelad!

I can't wait to go into a branch of Waterstones and see my book on the shelves.

My first piece in a broadsheet was pretty special for me but I think this will make me feel even happier!

Your dh must be ecstatic at the moment!

SoupDragon · 22/11/2007 17:28
Eliza2 · 22/11/2007 17:47

My mother does that in Waterstones: she takes my book off the back shelf and puts it on the tables at the front (which you have to pay mega bucks to position a book on) and I'm worried she's on CCTV somewhere!

boo64 · 22/11/2007 19:04

Now there's an idea!!
Fast forward 10 months and I shall turn into a bookshop visiting obsessive, sneaking copies of my book onto the tables....this could be my new hobby.

Eliza2 · 22/11/2007 20:20

Remember the dark glasses and false beard.

SoupDragon · 23/11/2007 10:41

I used to do it when the Mumsnet books came out

michaelad · 24/11/2007 17:31

mumsnet books? Did I miss something, Soupdragon?

RustyBear · 26/11/2007 17:34

michaelad - it was only when I looked at that link that I realised your name isn't michael lad..... that's how I'd always read it... [stupid emoticon]

michaelad · 27/11/2007 12:46
