Any one read this? Not my usual genre but this book blew me away.
Loved the dialogue from Dinah and felt that she told the story incredibly well.

Will definitely look up some more from the author. Can't remember what she is called as passed the book on. Anne Diamanté I think.

Was well worth 50p from the charity shop.

Yes I read it after a friend raved about it and lent it to me. Wasn't over enthusiastic when I read the blurb on the back but took it on holiday with me anyway and thoroughly enjoyed it, one of my favourite ever books.

Trayble · 29/04/2021 17:13

It's absolutely one of my top 10 books as well.
I hardly know anyone whose read it except one reader friend and my sister both of who love it too.

Rayn · 29/04/2021 17:15

I know what you mean about the blurb and don't think the book cover looks appealing but what a little gem!

Read it about 10 years ago as part of a book group.
We all loved it.

RampantIvy · 29/04/2021 17:17

I loved it. It was on TV fairly recently, and after watching it I reread it again. I think it is on the Drama channel or Amazon Prime. It has Minnie Driver, Iain Glen and Debra Winger in it.

Abracadabra12345 · 29/04/2021 17:20

I’m reading it at the moment. I thought I’d nearly finished then looked on my kindle and I was only 40% . Shock I’ve put it down for the time being but your enthusiasm has spurred me to return to it

Ooooh thank you, I’ll check that out
RampantIvy · 29/04/2021 17:26

It isn't currently on Drama Sad, and I don't think it is on Amazon Prime either

sleepyhead · 29/04/2021 18:34

Loved that book. It circulated around my friends back in the 90s and we still use the phrase "In the tent" to refer to being on your period.

Smartiepants79 · 29/04/2021 19:21

Absolutely adored this book. It was such a fascinating insight into a part of history I knew nothing about.
Fabulous characters and just beautifully written.
I read it 10 years ago but it made a real impression.

RampantIvy · 29/04/2021 19:41

I agree @Smartiepants79. It is a book that stays with you. I might suggest this as our next book at our book group meeting.

Rayn · 29/04/2021 23:04

I tried to find it on prime but nothing there!

I read it years ago. It was one of those books that really had an effect on me )not least a particularly harrowing scene that I would like to forget, but...). Beautifully written.

ConnieDobbs · 29/04/2021 23:24

I read it and enjoyed it, I haven't read anything else by the author so would love some recommendations.

sessell · 29/04/2021 23:31

Extraordinary book. We all loved it in my book group. I never hear it talked about though. It's almost like an underground cult thing!

Maggiesfarm · 30/04/2021 02:03

Wonderful. I have read it too.

It was also serialised on television, you may still be able to access it. Well worth watching, very good cast and marvellous scenes.

I've just checked, you can get it on Youtube.

JaninaDuszejko · 30/04/2021 18:33

Interesting article about the book and its author here.

PollyPepper · 01/05/2021 18:01

This one is collecting dust on my bookshelf after a recommendation so you've encouraged me to pull it out!

Staywithmemyblood · 01/05/2021 18:30

Definitely in my top 10 too 👍🏻

HappydaysArehere · 06/05/2021 20:29

I had this sent to me by my SIL as she loved it. I really enjoyed it and not long after finishing it I saw it was dramatised on the Drama channel. A few days ago I was searching for historical fiction on the web when I came across recommendations the top one being The Red Tent. The second was The Headmaster’s Wager which I sent for and am also really enjoying.

Mydogisagentleman · 09/05/2021 16:30

Loved that, I read it about 15 years ago.
I must buy another copy

crazylikechocolate · 09/05/2021 16:44

Not the usual genre that I would read but I'm another reader that was blown away with this and completely recommend reading this , I've also got the 'good harbour' by Anita Diamant but couldn't get into it

Quincie · 09/05/2021 16:47

I read it ages ago and it was a good book but I discovered that there is no red tent, they don't use them (I know it's fiction but it sounded believable so I was disappointed)

SausageCrush · 09/05/2021 17:04

This is an amazing book!
I read it years ago and kept it to re-read.
Might dust it off for my next choice...
