I have gone off the boil and just can't find anything that I love. I love it so much when I finish an amazing book. Examples of books I have enjoyed recently are;
Life after life
The book thief
The Goldfinch
Where the Crawdogs sing
Eleanor Elephont
Looking for a gripping, moving, spine tingling recommendation. Love a bit of a cry too! Grin

Just finished The Secrets Between Us by Louise Douglas, which would seem to meet all of your criteria!

“The One hundred years of Lenni and Margot” by Marianne Cronin.
You will laugh and cry.

The sealwoman's gift?

BTW I agree with @iamthesandstorm - The Lost Lights of St Kilda is a really lovely book

princessspotify · 16/04/2021 20:34

TM Logan, The Catch and The Holiday
Half a world away- Mike Gayle left me sobbing

Acrasia · 16/04/2021 22:17

Betty by Tiffany McDaniel. It’s heartbreaking but so, so beautiful.

wireleaf · 17/04/2021 11:18

Have you read A God in Ruins? It's related to Life After Life, but not a sequel/prequel, more an alternative version.

I think all of Sarah Waters' books have that same absorbing quality as the books in your list.

Wolf Hall and the sequels.
Commonwealth by Ann Patchett
The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer
Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout

Three Hours - just read this about about a siege in a school - gripping
