OMG.
Just finished this after being recommended it by my SIL.

One of the best books I've ever read.

Thriller/psychological twisty turner, I couldn't put it down and read it in two days straight.

Anyone else read it?

I am reading it at the moment! So, I was literally covering my eyes trying to read your post incase you said something I don't know about!
Got a theory already about what's actually going on but I honestly hope I haven't figured it out yet.
Love Olivia's point of view narrative.
So tempted to ask you something in particular but I don't want to accidentally spoil it for anyone else.
Did it keep you guessing until the end, op?

Saucery · 05/04/2021 15:40

Isn’t it AMAZING?!!
I want to talk about it too, but it’s so intricately put together that there is a danger of Spoilers .

Wishingwell75 · 05/04/2021 15:47

I've had a particularly bad run of disappointing books recently, so I was overjoyed to find one that I really am having difficulty in putting down!😁

Saucery · 05/04/2021 15:52

All I’ll say is I thought I had a handle on where it was going, but I really didn’t.

Her others are excellent too, particularly Rawblood.

TaxTheRatFarms · 05/04/2021 15:53

I finished it last week and thought it was incredibly good! It just pulls your emotions in all sorts of directions all the way to the end. One of my favourites of the year so far.

Paranoidandroidmarvin1350 · 05/04/2021 16:02

It’s on my to be read list. But now I am going to have to buy it and read it next. Ugh. My wish list on amazing runs into £300

Paranoidandroidmarvin1350 · 05/04/2021 16:19

Well. I went and bought it. Be here tomorrow. So now I have to finish the one I’m reading before it comes

GizmoBasil · 05/04/2021 16:28

Yessss! Great responses, I'm so glad others have/are enjoying it as much as I did.

Feel free to PM me if you have a question about it, I had loads, specifically, well actually I won't say.

My SIL had already read it, when she replied to me and I my hunch was correct I was so smug, then so much else hit with so many other twists and turns that I'd totally missed it knocked the smugness out a bit Smile

Let's discuss on here when each of you have read it with clear spoiler alerts, I'm left with one big question and I'm hoping someone else will know!

OP posts:
Saucery · 05/04/2021 16:59

Yes to the hunch! There are so many big standard thrillers about that I felt smug about spotting it, but I should have known better with this author.

Saucery · 05/04/2021 16:59

*bog standard

Saucery · 05/04/2021 17:00

Do PM me your big question, Gizmo if you like.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/04/2021 20:26

I’ve been checking for a thread on this. I LOVED it. I finished it at the start of last week and am still thinking about it now.

GizmoBasil · 05/04/2021 21:35

@Judystilldreamsofhorses isn't it amazing?

It was one of those I had to take a break from reading other books for a while so I could digest it IYKWIM?

OP posts:
AnneShirleysNewDress · 05/04/2021 21:37

I've just downloaded it to my kindle.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/04/2021 22:47

@GizmoBasil it was just perfect. I have recommended it to so many people. Every time I read an Olivia bit I imagined my own cat speaking. I wish you had put spoilers in the thread title so we could talk about it properly.

I have had a good run lately, prior to that I read The Last One at the Party, which was also fantastic.

One2Three4Five6 · 17/04/2021 19:48

@GizmoBasil you recommended this to me on another thread, and after reading this one I've gone ahead and bought it on my Kindle.

IdblowJonSnow · 17/04/2021 20:07

Looking for a new book to read, will try this!

GizmoBasil · 17/04/2021 20:14

@One2Three4Five6 I'm so pleased!

I rushed out to buy this book after having read it.

It was possibly the worst book I've ever read!! I was so infuriated by it that I had to resurrect this thread to complain 😂

I thought it was shoddy, schlocky, over-blown writing. The 'twist' wasn't anything of the kind. I literally knew what would happen from page 1, and was correct. I thought it attempted to shamelessly manipulate the reader & was so crass in its depiction of the subject matter.

I can't go into more detail in case I do spoil it for others!

It wasn't just poorly-written in my opinion, it was horrible, content-wise, like it was masquerading as a horror / Gothic novel, throwing all the usual 'stock' themes at it.

So... I know everyone here loved it but I hated it. I am not remotely good usually at seeing 'twists' but this book made it easy, as there were practically huge signposts!

Her Afterword - smug & self-satisfied - was (nearly) the worst. 😞

EarringsandLipstick · 20/04/2021 14:13

Sorry ... I should have written: I rushed out to buy this book after reading this thread (not 'it')

PollyPepper · 20/04/2021 14:22

@EarringsandLipstick noooooo!!!!
I'm sorry you didn't like it! Ah well, one man's treasure and all that.

EarringsandLipstick · 20/04/2021 20:13

@PollyPepper I know! It's more than not liking it. It's there with The Poisonwood Bible (a controversial choice) as a book I viscerally hated!

(Hence my MN rant. The kids also had to listen to my diatribe!)
