Does anyone remember this book?

I read it years ago, it might be a YA book about a schoolgirl who lives with her mum and gran in a small town with nothing going on. She’s a bit of a loner, and becomes pregnant with her boyfriend who isn’t that nice. Her mum who was a young mum too is furious and goes away for a day/few days?

It’s actually a comedy and has some funny parts, like when the mum goes on a date with an empty stomach, gets drunk and pukes up the peanuts she ate in the pub.

The girl wants to be called Kat, and her gran laughs at her. I think there is a creepy neighbour.

Kat has a baby called William and gets together with her best friend from school.

There are flashback scenes from the Gran’s past, possibly some kind of affair?

The author wrote other books, but I can’t for the life of me remember her name. Does it sound familiar to anyone?

Sounds like The Bad Mother’s Handbook by Kate Long?

Looking up Kate Long's books on Amazon - I read The Bad Mother's Handbook and really enjoyed it but too long ago to remember the details, this sounds as if it might be Swallowing Grandma by the same author.

I actually think there might be a mix of both books in the OP. I’m pretty sure that Kat was in Swallowing Grandma, but having a baby called William and ending up with her best friend was Bad Mother’s. They both had grandmas though.... Also a long time since I read them, so equally might be me mixing them up!

Yes, looking at the descriptions and titles, that wouldn't surprise me at all! There's also a sequel to The Bad Mothers' Handbook called Bad Mothers United. I have a paperback of Swallowing Grandma somewhere and the rest on Kindle.

I think I am probably mixing them up! It gives me reason to read them again now I know who wrote them :)
