Best app for audiobooks?

MrsKingfisher · 24/02/2021 18:21

I listen to between 2 and 3 audiobooks a month, I'm signed up to my local library which is great but the titles aren't always new or they're on hold for weeks.

I've looked up audible but for the £7.99 a month you don't get to listen to as many as you like.

Is there a better app that's not so costly?

Thanks

I'm trying Scribd at the moment and quite enjoying it. It's a bit more expensive at 9.99 but you get more for your money than audible as it's unlimited rather than credits.

Message Audible and see if they have their 3 months for £3.99 offer available, say you want to try the service and aren't sure.

Although Audible is £7.99 normally, they also have a lot of 2 for 1 sales, sales where things are £3 etc. I tend to do a combination of that and reserve library audiobooks too.

When I say message, I mean Live Chat

I pay £110 for 24 credits in one go for Audible then use a lot of them in the 2 for 1 sales so it works out around £2.30 per book if you do that. Much cheaper if you can afford to pay in one go.

Thanks @yoshiblue I got my £3.99, now to choose a book. Good idea @ChessieFL I'll look into that too. Thanks all!

I got 3 months for 99p on Audible, then £3.99 per month for 3 months after that. Then I cancelled it.

I'm a big Audible user, and I also get the 110 a year for 24 credits.
I've looked into Scribd but I am put off that not everything seems to be available and you don't own the book (it's the same business model as Spotify), I have also heard horror stories about the books available change month on month and you can start a book and then find it becomes unavailable before you finish, or if you are listening to a series and the last one isn't available until you renew. (This is anecdotal so not sure if true)

You could look at Borrowbox which should mean you can get free Audio books through the library. I do use this too, but the choice is limited at mine and newer/popular books have very long waits.
