Short stories

Anyone know where I can find some short stories, really short. A bit like you’d get in a magazine .

My mum is non verbal and is in a care home. I video call her every couple of days as due to lockdown visiting is not allowed. The call is for 30 mins and I really struggle as obviously it’s so one sided. And due to lockdown I haven’t been doing much to tell her about either.

I thought it might be a good idea to read a short story to her and I think she would enjoy it, but I don’t know where to look.
Any ideas anyone?

What a nice idea OP.

I'm not sure what sort of stories your mum would enjoy but was going to suggest The People's Friend Annual as containing a selection of short stories, all quite pleasant and nothing upsetting. Towards the end of her life it was the sort of thing my mum enjoyed.

Alternatively, the James Herriot vet books, starting with All Creatures Great and Small would work really well one chapter at a time. That's what I'd go for myself.

That's great OP. It's something you'll probably quite enjoy reading yourself. I've been rereading them in lockdown -very comforting.

Hope your mum is doing OK. These are not easy times.
