We take it in turns to choose a book for book group and it's now my turn.. I'm struggling to choose.
I'm looking for a good story plus a topic/storyline that would make a good discussion
Has anyone got any recommendations that have gone down well with their book groups please?
Thank you

Cutting for Stone
By Abraham Verghese

The best scoring book of my book club for several years

Recently my book group have enjoyed:

The Beekeeper of Aleppo

The Sealwoman's Gift

Shuggie Bain

All very readable but dealing with serious issues like refugees, slavery, alcoholism, so a lot to talk about.

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones

Don't be afraid to go for something people might not LOVE - most of my best book clubs have been when people have something negative to say!

The Memory Police is a good one for book club - interesting topic and themes, and written in a way the provokes opinions.

We have just finished The Fear, by Mark Cunnington in our local book group. It's a brilliant and emotional book, based on his real experiences with scary things happening to different family members. Lots to discuss! Definitely recommend it and was a great little Amazon discovery. We were happy too to support a relatively undiscovered author.

Thanks so much everyone. @highlandcoo We've read the first two of those. There is a bit of background that one member continually rubbishes every book i choose and also dominates all the discussions. (The Seal woman's gift was my last choice)

Just trying to not to have to go through that this time Smile

Was going to do Cutting For Stone as read that myself a few years ago and loved it but it's not on kindle and is £8 on Amazon and second hand may take time to come
