I am churning through this at the moment (despite having to wince/laugh/shudder through a particular bit). Any other MNers liked this one?

yes i read it recently and liked it a lot, although not as much as the curious incident. still thought it was v.good though

TwoIfBySea · 25/10/2007 21:31

Oh yes, I read this a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Such unusual characters yet so realistic. I am so sick of the amount of rubbish that is being churned out just now that to find a book with characters of interest is a relief.

The bit with the scissors though, owyah! I shall say no more for those who haven't read it.

Troutpout · 25/10/2007 21:34

i read it in the summer
Loved it...much better than The Curious Incident i thought

beautifuldays · 25/10/2007 21:34

it was the bit about drowning i didn't like, bit too realistic for me!

NotQuiteCockney · 26/10/2007 01:50

Finished it. Yes, it was the bit with the scissors that freaked me out, big time. I was cringing, laughing, pretty much covering my eyes with my hands while reading.

I wasn't too bothered about the drowning bit ...

I reading this at the moment and really enjoying it. I love his writing style and think he gets so much family stuff spot on.

Sidge · 07/11/2007 20:23

I read it on holiday recently. It took a bit of getting into and I found the characters hard to warm to. The whole thing was slightly detached, certainly not as absorbing as Curious Incident.

bitsnbobs · 08/11/2007 16:46

Ew, the scissors bit was gross but enjoyed this book and Mark Haddons previous one.

flowerpotty · 12/11/2007 18:41

Have just finished it. Was actually quite sad to come to the end because I really liked the characters. I love Mark Haddon's style of writing and am looking forward to his next book.

DANCESwithHughJackman · 12/11/2007 18:51

I really enjoyed it, I bought it for my mum...should maybe have warned her about the scissors bit but a bit difficult without giving things away.

Naartjie · 16/11/2007 19:43

This was good, but too psychologically freaky for me. It wasn't as good as the first.

Threadworm · 16/11/2007 19:45

Loved it. The gay sex inturrupted by nausea was hysterical too
